ANNUAL GRASSES CONTROL WITH TOPRAMEZONE IN MIXTURE WITH ALS-INHIBITING HERBICIDES Planta Daninha
DAMALAS,C. A.; GITSOPOULOS,T. K.; KOUTROUBAS,S.D.; GEORGOULAS,I..
ABSTRACTPanicoid grasses are major weeds of maize and sugarcane as well as of several other important grains, including sorghum, pearl millet, and foxtail millet. Pot trials were conducted to study the activity and potential interactions of topramezone in mixture with recommended rates of rimsulfuron or nicosulfuron on three annual panicoid grasses (i.e. Echinochloa oryzoides,E.phyllopogon, and Panicum miliaceum). Target weeds were treated at the four- to five-leaf growth stage. On the basis of fresh weight reduction, topramezone alone provided 78% control of E.oryzoides, 68% control of E.phyllopogon, and 99% control of P.miliaceum. Topramezone plus rimsulfuron or nicosulfuron provided decreased control of both Echinochloa spp. compared with topramezone...

This paper introduces the field of mixture toxicity and the challenges in regulating pesticide mixtures. Even though pesticides are unique chemical stressors designed to have biological activity that can affect a number of nontarget species, they are intentionally placed into the environment in large quantities. Currently, methods and terminology for evaluating mixture toxicity are poorly established. The most common approach used is the assumption of additive concentration, with the concentrations adjusted for potency to a reference toxicant. Using this approach, the joint action of pesticides that have similar chemical structures and modes of toxic action can be predicted. However, this approach and other modeling techniques often provide little insight...

Determinación y estudio de sustratos y fertirrigación en la producción de plantas cítricas certificadas. Colegio de Postgraduados
Contreras Fuentes, Griselda Magdalena.

Determination of compatibility and stability of haloperidol and morphine mixtures used in palliative care BJPS
María,Espinosa Bosch; Fuensanta,Sánchez Rojas; Catalina,Bosch Ojeda.
Abstract With the aim of controlling various symptoms, possible to use mixtures of different drugs within infusion devices. This should take into account the compatibility of the mixture. Factors influence the compatibility and stability of the mixtures are: drug type, concentration, solvent, temperature and light. When evaluating the compatibility of the mixtures for infusion for subcutaneous via is important to consider infusion devices used and the conditions of light and temperature should simulate as far as possible the conditions in practice assistance. There are diverse studies that analyze the compatibility of drug mixtures, but there are still many possible combinations of drugs for which evidence is not available. The objective of this work is to...

The risk posed by complex chemical mixtures in the environment to wildlife and humans is increasingly debated, but has been rarely tested under environmentally relevant scenarios. To address this issue, two mixtures of 14 or 19 substances of concern (pesticides, pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, a surfactant, and a plasticizer), each present at its safety limit concentration imposed by the European legislation, were prepared and tested for their toxic effects. The effects of the mixtures were assessed in 35 bioassays, based on 11 organisms representing different trophic levels. A consortium of 16 laboratories was involved in performing the bioassays. The mixtures elicited quantifiable toxic effects on some of the test systems...

Modifications on Labels and Leaflets of Herbicides for Preventing and Managing Resistance Planta Daninha
CARVALHO,S.J.P.; ROSSI,C.V.S.; MELO,M.S.C.; CHRISTOFFOLETI,P.J.; KAGI,F.Y..
ABSTRACT: The challenge of managing herbicide-resistant weeds is an agricultural reality in Brazil that shall not be neglected. In this sense, Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (MAPA) published Act No. 45 on July 14, 2017, provides the inclusion of a code system on labels and leaflets of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, in order to demonstrate the mode of action of the active ingredient present in the product. In case of mix formulations, both molecules must be discriminated, adopting the same “Herbicide Resistance Action Committee - HRAC” international reference code. The Act No. 45 facilitates the process to choose and adopt products by all those involved in the chain production. It also collaborates with the possible to...

Substrate from vermiculite and cattle manure for ornamental pepper seedling production Horticultura Brasileira
Costa,Edilson; Prado,Jaime CL; Cardoso,Eliana D; Binotti,Flavio FS.
Substrates with a mixture of two or more materials have better conditions for root development of vegetables seedlings. This research aimed to evaluate the formation of ornamental pepper (cultivars Etna and Pyramid) seedlings in six different combinations between vermiculite (V) and cattle manure (M) (10%M + 90%V; 25%M + 75%V; 40%M + 60%V; 55%M + 45%V; 70%M + 30%V; 85%M + 15%V). The experiment was conducted at Universidade de Mato Grosso do Sul in a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme 6 x 2 (six substrates and two cultivars). The initial growth and emergence of ornamental pepper seedlings were evaluated. The highest amounts of vermiculite favored the emergence of pepper. The highest amounts of cattle manure in the substrate formed the best...

Workshop Report: Advancing the Art of Analyzing Risks and Benefits of Dredged Material Management AgEcon
Wilson, James D..
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been delegated responsibility for assuring the navigability of waters designated for that purpose in the United States. Dredging is among the activities required to fulfill this responsibility. In some places, the Corps finds difficulty in carrying out dredging projects because it lacks spaces where the sediments that must be removed ("dredged materials") can be placed or otherwise managed. In these cases, the public has expressed concerns about the impacts of dredged materials on the environment, either underwater or on land ("upland"). Thus, the Corps often finds it necessary to be able to evaluate and describe the costs or risks and the benefits of the possible alternatives that may be available. Scientists and...
